IDN

Overview

From the 26th July 2010, 10:00 am NZST the registration of IDNs (internationalised domain names) with macronised vowels which feature in the Māori language, an official language under New Zealand law, will be permitted in the .nz name space.
The current .nz domain name registration policy will be amended to allow IDN registrations.
Third level domain names (3LD) will be allowed to consist of 26 basic English (Latin) alphabet characters a-z, digits, the '-' hyphen, and characters ā, ē, ī, ō and ū.
Māori (with the ā macron) will be added to the list of allowed second level domain names (2LDs). Both .māori.nz and .maori.nz will be valid 2LDs. All existing and future names registered under .maori.nz will be duplicated in the DNS to be available under .māori.nz as well.

Character table .NZ LATIN

The following charcter table is called .NZ LATIN and contains the characters used by NZRS for the registration of .NZ domains after 26th July 2010 represented using the Latin script.

The table lists the Unicode code points in the U+XXXX format:

The IDN Sunrise Period has finished now

To avoid potential disputes during the initial phase of IDN registrations current .nz Registrants who wish to register an IDN variant of their current name can do so during a IDN Sunrise Period which will start 6th April 2010 and last until 6th July 2010.

Registrants will be able to apply for variant(s) of their current domain name(s) on the DNC's website once the Sunrise Period starts.
